The glory came hours after the former Gor Mahia star was snubbed in the latest Harambee Stars squad released by head coach Benni McCarthy.
In the Tuesday night clash, Al-Arabi faced Lusail in the fourth round of the Qatar Super League (QSL) Cup, thrashing them 6-1.
Olunga started the match from the bench but came on in the second half with his team already enjoying a 4-0 lead.
The 31-year-old then registered his name on the scoresheet, slotting home Al Arabi’s fifth of the night in the 76th minute.
The other goals came courtesy of a Yazan Al Naimat hat trick in the 23rd, 34th and 87th minutes and a brace from Pedro in the 19th and 41st minutes.
Most importantly, though, Olunga got an opportunity to captain Al Arabi after club skipper Yousef Muftah was taken off. This was a major statement on his stature at the club that he joined three months ago from Al Duhail.
Olunga’s absence in the latest Harambee Stars squad continues to create headlines in the country, with speculations building up as Kenyans eagerly await the explanation from McCarthy.
Clarke Oduor
Elsewhere, Harambee Stars wingback Clarke Oduor was an unused substitute as his English League Two club Grimsby suffered a heavy 5-0 home defeat to English Premier League (EPL) club Brentford that knocked them out of the Carabao Cup.
The top-tier side went into halftime with a three-goal lead before adding two more in the second half as they cruised past Grimsby with ease.
Just like Olunga, Oduor also did not find a place in the latest Harambee Stars squad that will compete in the November FIFA Window.
