Capocannoniere seems to be the most African word

Three of the four best goal-scorers in the Italian Serie A are players from Nigeria and Angola

George Weah, Mohamed Salah, Samuel Eto'o, Mohamed Kallon, Obafemi Martins... just to name a few highly-prolific African strikers in the recent or more distant Serie A past. Those names deserve applause and a standing ovation for their goal-scoring skills and tallies, but guess what - none of them ever were the Golden Boot of the mythical Italian chamopionship.

However, things are about to change in the good old Italian league this season, as three out of the four best goal-scorers come from Africa!

Napoli and Nigeria's mesmerizing striker Victor Osimhen leads the race for the Capocannoniere (the Italian word for the best scorer in the Serie A), just like his side on the table, with impressive 19 goals on his account so far.

The second place has been so far reserved for the Argentine attacker Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan (14 goals), but he's got two more African forwards chasing him fiercely. Another Nigerian, Ademola Lookman of Atalanta, and Angolese M'Bala Nzola of Spezia sit in joint-third place with 12 goals each.

Unlike Osimhen and Lookman, who are enjoying some wonderful days with their respective teams, Nzola is facing a vigorous relegation battle with Spezia.

They are currently only five points above the danger zone, mostly thanks to the Angolese striker, who scored more than 50 per cent of his club's goals (Nzola netted 12 times, and the entire Spezia 23).
