Wydad Club Athletic carry a 3-1 advantage heading into the second leg fixture of their CAF Champions League semifinal tonight

Moroccan side Wydad Athletic Club will be looking to get the job done and book their place in the final of the 2021/2022 CAF Champions League tournament when they host Angolan side Petro de Luanda in the second leg of their semifinal clash set to be staged at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca on Friday night.

Going into the return tie, Wydad will be brimming with confidence as they carry a massive 3-1 advantage gotten from the first leg played last week in Angola courtesy of three away goals from Yahya Jabrane, Guy Mbenza and a Tiago Azulao own goal that left them in the driving seat of the tie.

Backed by their vociferous home support, the two-time CAF Champions League winners, who first won the prestigious continental tourney in 1992 before claiming it again in 2017, will be looking to make it to the final for the first time since 2019 when they lost to Esperance de Tunis in controversial fashion.

They go for the return tie having only lost thrice at home in the Champions League since 2007. Their only defeats coming at the hands of Al Ahly (2016 and 2020) and Kaizer Chiefs (June 2021).

Petro de Luanda, on the other hand, are looking to make their first ever Champions League final in their history when they confront the herculean task of overturning the 3-1 deficit.

They come into the match lacking confidence on the continental stage having won only one of their last five Champions League matches, a 2-1 home win over Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg of the quarter finals.

Their away record is also worrying as they have won only one of their last 10 away meetings, and it was against fellow Angolan side Sagrada Esperanca in the group stages of this year’s showpiece.

The two sides met in their last match of the group stages in Casablanca with Petro earning a massive 5-1 thrashing at the hands of the opponents they face tofay.

The game kicks off at 2200EAT.
