The Bundesliga champions outclassed Dortmund 4-0 at Westfalenstadion
In a highly anticipated clash between two German football giants, Borussia Dortmund faced off against Bayern Munich at the Westfallenstadion. The atmosphere was electric as fans filled the stadium for what was supposed to be a close game, but ended almost before it had even started. Although this game is still considered a classic of German football, the Bavarians hammered Dortmund by scoring four goals without reply to show who's boss.
Just four minutes into the game, Bayern Munich capitalized on a set-piece opportunity. A sharp corner kick from Leroy Sane found its way to the towering Dayot Upamecano, who headed the ball into the net. It was a simple yet effective move that put Bayern ahead 1-0.
Dortmund's response was swift as they attempted to break through the Munich defence. However, the Bayern backline, led by Upamecano, stood strong and thwarted Dortmund's attempts to level the score. We were still inside the opening ten minutes when that familiar English guy doubled the Bundesliga holders' lead. Sane initiated the attack with a clever backheel pass to Leon Goretzka, who surged forward and provided a precise pass for Kane to finish calmly. It was a masterclass in attacking football from the reigning champions.
Edin Terzic's team, though, did not back down. They looked to respond and created a few promising moments, with their forwards Donyell Malen and Niclas Fullkrug linking up well. However, they couldn't find the crucial final touch to trouble Manuel Neuer's goal. The Borussia Dortmund faithful hoped for a response, and their side pressed to find a goal. The Black-Yellow sought opportunities on the right side, with Wolf becoming more involved in the play. However, their attempts were denied, primarily due to Thomas Tuchel's well-organized defence.
Kane nearly made it three on the half-hour, but his strong shot from a narrow angle bounced off the post. The hosts held on, but they did have a good chance to get back into the game just before the break. Malen had a sudden chance, but his left-footed attempt was just off target. Dortmund had a couple of promising situations after the restart. Julian Brandt, with his pace, made a penetrating run towards the Bayern defence. Still, his attempt to find Marco Reus was cut off by Kim Min-jae.
Meanwhile, the visitors continued to apply relentless pressure, with their attacking prowess causing headaches for the Dortmund backline. Nico Schlotterbeck embarked on a dribbling run but ended up fouling Konrad Laimer. Despite his subsequent complaint, the foul was deemed an offensive one.
As the clock ticked down, the game remained fiercely contested, with both teams creating opportunities, but the goalkeepers stood tall. Neuer, who had already saved Dortmund earlier, was equally matched by Gregor Kobel on the other end.
In the end, Dortmund's sloppy defence proved to be the team's undoing. With 20 minutes left, Kingsley Coman delivered a cross and Kane had all the time in the world to calmly control it and find the corner of the net to seal the points. The former Tottenham hotspur captain wrapped up his hat-trick deep in added time to set the final scoreline of 4-0.
Who is the boss in Germany? The answer has been the same for a full decade. Either way, Borussia Dortmund isn't the team to change it.
