Alushula reveals how he managed to contain Homeboyz wingers on his debut

After making his Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) debut against Kakamega Homeboyz, budding Kariobangi Sharks right back Frederick Alushula has revealed how he managed to contain the duo of Stephen Etyang and David Odhiambo

The youngster was handed his maiden league start on Friday when Sharks humbled Kakamega Homeboyz by a solitary goal at the Utalii grounds starting ahead of first choice and Kenyan international Daniel Sakari who is injured.

Sakari was ruled out for three weeks after spraining his ankle while in training.

The injury was deemed as a massive blow to coach William Muluya ahead of restart as the player was part of the team which had reaped positive results before the league was halted and had also punched above his weight in the final 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier double.

However, Alushula, a February acquisition from Green Commandos seized the opportunity and proved that he was equal to the task despite facing the pacy duo who are famed for giving full backs torrid times on the pitch.

The national U20 defender said that Muluya advised him to keep close tabs with the two wingers and replicate the confidence he depicts in training sessions on the pitch.

"It was a great feeling to make my league debut although it was tough considering that I came up against two tricksters and I was filling Sakari's shoes. The coach told me to concentrate on their movements and do the the things I do in training," he said.

Although the player lasted for eighty minutes after picking an harmstring injury expressed optimism that his performance would procure him consistent playing time going forward.

He said he was eyeing more starts as part of his plan to nail a place in the national U23 squad set to take part in the CECAFA championship set for Ethiopia in July.

"I believe my performance showed the coach that I am talented enough to earn more playing time. The more I play, the more I increase my chances of getting a call up to the U23 team. The competition from Sakari will make me a better player," he added.
