A frustrated Mutanda makes decision not to extend his stay in Ruaraka

Youthful KCB striker Ian Mutanda will not extend his stay at the club when his contract expires in July this year.

Mutanda arrived at the decision to cut ties with the deep pocketed club after seeing limited playing time and persistent goal drought.

The bankers roped in the forward in 2019 following his stellar performance in the National Super League with Kisumu All Stars where he found the back of the net ten times to inspire the club to automatic promotion to the top flight.

KCB who were on a spending spree in their second season in the top flight after promotion were understood to have raided All Stars for the striker as they regarded him as one for future.

Apart from signing Mutanda, Zedekiah Otieno brought in the burly Enoch Agwanda, seasoned goal poacher Stephen Waruru and former Ushuru hitman Benson Amianda in a bid to strengthen the department.

The former Palos player however found life at the senior level rather tough and has opted to leave at the end of the season. Sources inside the club indicate that Mutanda was on the verge of being loaned out in the recently shut transfer window but the deal fell through at the eleventh hour.

Having made a paltry three cameos this season against Posta Rangers, Vihiga United and Nairobi City Stars he says he has no plan to renew his stay but instead will exit to quench his thirst for regular game time.

" I will not extending my contract with KCB. I desperately want to leave and search for playing time elsewhere. It is frustrating for a player to work hard in training but gets overlooked on match days. It was a tough decision to make considering that I like the club and I am yet to get offers from other clubs ," he said.

Despite appearing to have made up his mind, the former Barding High School alumnus revealed plans to step up his input in anticipation for playing time in the second leg.

"I haven't lost hope at all as we still have more than a dozen matches remaining. I will continue working hard and hopefully at some point I will convince the coach. It is my wish to help the club achieve its targets before I sign off," he added.

KCB currently sit second on the Football Kenya Federation Premier League table with 29 points, six shy of league leaders Tusker
