Brighton have another gem: Poker of goals with no bluffing

Seagulls' Diego Gomez was the central star of the EFL Cup last night, scoring as many as four goals (?!) in his team's 6-0 victory over Barnsley
On the EFL Cup night in which Chelsea struggled against the minnows, Lincoln City, Alexander Isak scored his maiden Liverpool goal, and his teammate Hugo Ekitike received a second yellow card for taking off his jersey after scoring the winner against Southampton, the name everyone was talking about was Diego Gomez.
Doesn't ring a bell at first, does it?
The 22-year-old midfielder joined Brighton last January from Inter Miami for €13 million, but didn't fit in immediately. Last season, he made 15 appearances for the Seagulls, but came off the bench in 12 of them, and recorded one goal and as many assists.
Many argued that Brighton made a mistake and - some would say finally - brought a prospect unable to live up to its potential at Amex Stadium.
Oh, how wrong they were...

A month ago, the Premier League side demolished Oxford United 6-0 in the second round, and last night destroyed Barnsley by the same score in Round 3, while Gomez scored as many as four goals!
The Paraguayan hit the mark in the ninth, 21st, 33rd, and 68th minutes and became the first player to score a "poker of goals" on the road in the EFL Cup since Arsenal's Julio Baptista against Liverpool at Anfield 18 years ago!

Thanks to last night's magnificent performance, the midfielder improved his EFL Cup goal-scoring tally to five, given that he found the net against Oxford as well.
In the Premier League, he made four appearances in the current campaign (he missed the duel against Bournemouth due to illness), but was a starter only against Man City. However, after what he did against Barnsley, Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler will count on him more seriously from now on, that's for sure.
