Former Chelsea forward Diego Costa signs a one-year contract with Gremio

French newspaper L'Equipe named him the most hated footballer in December 2015, based on his provocative and violent behaviour and several feuds with other players on and off the pitch. He managed to switch nationalities and represent two different national teams within the same year, 2013, Brazil and Spain. He became a fan favourite for his approach at Chelsea and Atletico Madrid.

Now, in the autumn of his career, the 35-year-old striker Diego Costa has decided it's time to settle in his homeland, but not before he made another not-so-low-profile move from one giant, Botafogo, to another, Gremio.

Gremio announced the news on Thursday night with a tweet that read:

"He is Spanish but has Brazilian blood and titles wherever he has been!

"Diego Costa arrives to strengthen Imortal's attack. A multi-time champion in Europe, he has already worn yellow and red and will now defend the Tricolor mantle. Welcome!"

He won the Premier League title twice with Chelsea, two La Ligas, and a Europa League with Atletico.

Despite being born in Brazil, Costa only made his first league appearance there in 2021, when he joined Atletico Mineiro and won the league and cup double.
