Brandt wraps up three points for wasteful BVB on his 300th Bundesliga appearance

Dortmund should have scored a few goals but their finishing was abysmal

Julian Brandt became the youngest player, aged just 27 years and 171 days, to reach the magical tally of 300 Bundesliga appearances on Friday night, and he duly marked the occasion by scoring the only goal of BVB's win over Werder Bremen.

Edin Terzic's team did their best to annoy their crowd at Westfalenstadion with a performance that was shaky at best - and marred by comical wastefulness in front of the goal.

Bremen had a strong hold on the match in the early stages, with Marvin Ducksch coming close to scoring from distance. Despite the visitors' early dominance, Borussia Dortmund began to threaten as the first half progressed. Julian Ryerson had a shot denied by Dortmund's Michael Zetterer. Although the Yellow-Blacks had several set pieces, their best play came on the counter-attack.

Marco Reus had an excellent opportunity to open the scoring for Borussia Dortmund, but he narrowly missed the target. In the final moments of the first half, Zetterer made another great save, this time denying a powerful shot from Donyell Malen.

Dortmund players were determined to maintain their impressive streak of not playing a goalless Bundesliga match since October 2019. The breakthrough came when Emre Can delivered a brilliant pass to Brandt, who chipped the ball over Zetterer to open the scoring. Despite some late chances for Bremen, they couldn't mount a heroic comeback, and Dortmund secured a 1-0 victory, moving to the top of the Bundesliga standings - for a night at least.
