Boost for Mathare as Ogolla is set to rejoin camp next week

Mathare United head coach Ezekiel Akwana will have the luxury of fielding his left back Norman Ogolla starting next week after the budding defender made a timely recovery from an ankle injury. 

The youngster last played for the 2008 league champions in their 1-0 loss to Bidco United early last month before hurting his ankle while training with his boyhood club in Makongeni.

Ogolla who had established himself as the first choice left back said he had fully recovered and was aiming at rejoining the team for full training starting next week.

"I will be back to the team from next week. I picked a knock on my left ankle during the international window that has kept me out for a month. Of course i return to the team hungry for success and hopefully, I will play a part to the team's success story," he said.

His return comes at a time when Akwana had been struggling to raise quorum in training after reports from the Goan Institute grounds where the club trains revealed that several players have been opting to give the daily sessions a wide berth in protest for their delayed salaries.

Mathare have been living from hand to mouth from the time they parted way with their shirt sponsor early this year under unclear circumstances. 

Worse still, the club did little to convince the senior players who played a crucial role to their survival last year from taking offers elsewhere or committing their future to the club.

For the time the 18-year old was sidelined, Akwana who succeeded Frank Ouna depended on Tony Castro, who joined the club before the season began from Western Stima.

Meanwhile, Ogolla tipped Mathare to put Wazito to the sword when the two struggling sides clash this weekend. Wazito have only won a game this season despite splashing cash in the last transfer window where coach Francis Kimanzi acquired decent players.
