Otieno’s return is expected to significantly strengthen the club’s defensive options as the season enters a crucial phase
FKF Premier League side Mara Sugar FC has received a timely boost to their campaign following the return of versatile defender Lameck Otieno after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The Kilgoris-based club confirmed the positive development through their official social media platforms, announcing that the defender has resumed full-contact first-team training after spending close to six months out through injury.

Otieno’s return is expected to significantly strengthen the club’s defensive options as the season enters a crucial phase.
The former Darajani Gogo defender suffered a midshaft transverse fracture of the right tibia on 15 June 2025.
The injury occurred during Mara Sugar’s FKF Premier League clash against Murang’a Seal, a contest that ended in a draw.
The setback required immediate medical intervention, with the player undergoing a plastering procedure that ruled him out for the remainder of the 2024/2025 campaign and the early months of the current season.
As a result, Otieno has missed 14 league matches so far in the 2025/2026 campaign, depriving the team of one of its most reliable and hard-tackling defenders.
His absence was keenly felt, particularly given his ability to operate across multiple defensive positions.
“Lameck is back. The versatile defender has resumed first-team training after months out injured following a midshaft transverse fracture of the right tibia. Welcome back, Lameck,” announced the club.
The defender’s return comes at a critical time for the outfit, who have also been weakened by the departure of key defender David Owino, currently undergoing training with the Kenya Police training college.
Head coach Edward Manoah will welcome the added depth and experience as Mara Sugar seek to consolidate their top-flight status for a second consecutive season since earning promotion in 2024.
The 2024 National Super League champions currently sit tenth on the 18-team FKF Premier League table with 18 points, six behind league leaders AFC Leopards.
With Otieno back in the fold, Mara Sugar will hope to gain renewed defensive stability as they push for consistency in the second half of the season.
