Mara have not lost to MCF in the last three meetings and will be aiming to register maximum points on Sunday
Mara Sugar FC have integrated the pair of attacking midfielder Robert Obaga and David Owino ahead of their Sunday clash against Mully Children Family FC.
The millers will be visiting the Yatta-based club seeking to extend their perfect start under coach Vincent Nyaberi, when the two clash at Kenyatta Stadium.
Obaga and Owino, who took part in the sugarmen's opening six matches of the 2023-2024 season, return after sitting out of last weekend’s 3-2 win over Elites at the Awendo Green Stadium.
Obaga, who has established himself as an integral part of the millers this term registering three goals to his name, was stretched off in the 29th minute in Mara’s 2-1 defeat to Mulembe United with dyspnea (shortness in breathing) a similar condition Owino encountered after the game.
“Combative, Hard-tackling Midfielders Robert Obaga, and David Owino are back with the squad after shaking off chest injuries respectively,” announced the club.
The millers will be looking to bridge the gap between them and the league-lead group but the team assistant coach Godfrey Naibei admits it will not be a walk in the park, as they face a side under pressure to deliver and arrest their recent run of poor results.
“They (MCF FC) have a very good defense and their strikers are also very sharp. It will not be an easy match and we need to be concentrated throughout the game. Having started well the season, we want to keep that momentum and ensure we pick maximum win and keep the pressure on Mathare and Kisumu at the top,” noted Naibei who has been with the Mara since their time in the fourth division.
History will be on Mara’s side as they have not lost to MCF over the last three meetings, winning all the encounters while keeping clean sheets in all three games.
However, looking at how the Yatta club have started the season, on their best day, it will not be business as usual.
Head coach Robert Orangi Arasa knows only too well it will be tough against the Millers, but he reckons his side boasting of a good fighting spirit and squad depth will have enough to beat the Narok-based club in Machakos.
