Boiling Rice: Arsenal star lost the plot with Slovakian boss

Francesco Calzona was not intimidated by Rice, but, thankfully, other Three Lions players prevented any further chaos

We saw it all last night when Declan Rice of England confronted Slovakian boss Francesco Calzona after the final whistle.

But now, some new, fresh details have emerged about the altercation between the Arsenal star and the former Napoli coach.

The latter stormed onto the pitch to confront Turkish referee Umut Meler about the Three Lions' time-wasting.

When Rice intervened, trying to keep him away from the referees, the Slovakia boss reacted aggressively by shoving the Arsenal midfielder in the chest. Another member of his coaching staff was seen pushing the England star away.

Rice, who was telling Calzona not to bother speaking to the match officials, was left livid by the incident and had to be held back by teammates Ivan Toney, Aaron Ramsdale and Ezri Konsa as they tried to defuse the situation.

Daily Mail contacted expert lipreader Jeremy Freeman, and according to him, a furious Rice said: "Shut up, p***y, oi, shut up, you bald c**t."

Calzona later revealed that he wanted to speak to the officials at full time to complain about their failure to punish England's time-wasting tactics during the extra time.

"Rice was supposed to go to the referees and leave," Calzona said. "I had to speak to the refs and he wasn't leaving, he carried on. But then he apologised and it was all fine. I didn't like the way the England team were wasting time and not punished."
