The earliest the right back can return is January 2024

FC Talanta have been dealt a blow as versatile defender Kevin Maliachi has been ruled out of action for a month, following an ankle injury picked up in training.

Maliachi, who joined the team in the off-season transfer window from Nzoia Sugar, hurt his ankle with X-ray imaging exposing a minor fracture.

The defender, who predominantly plays as a right back, will consequently miss action for a month, meaning the earliest he can play a competitive match is January next year.

"I will be out for a month due to an injury. It's unfortunate that I will not be able to play for the club. I will come back better and stronger," he told Mozzart Sport.

The former APS Bomet defender regretted that the injury struck when he was inching closer to regular first-team duties.

Since making the switch, Maliachi has managed two starts for the Communications Authority of Kenya-sponsored team, and a number of second-half cameos.

"I was muscling my way up to the first team after a slow start. I hope to pick up where I left off in January," he lamented.

The former Mombasa Elite player didn't have the best start of life at Talanta, as he missed the first four fixtures at Talanta due to administrative issues emanating from his transfer from the Sugarmen.

He has also been facing competition for playing time from Peter Njammah, who has proven himself as Ken Kenyatta's preferred starter on the right side of defense.

Maliachi is a brother to Sofapaka left back Evans, and Nzoia's offensive midfielder Victor, who joined the club from Green Commandos.
