Bitter sweet moment for Kenyan forward after goal in England

Reading Time: 2min | Mon. 25.10.21. | 18:16

The forward scored his second goal for Morecambe since joining them back in July.

Jonah Ayunga was elated after netting for Morecambe in the 1-1 stalemate against Plymouth Argyle in the English Football League (EFL) League One but was disappointed not to collect victory.

The forward needed only six minutes to break the deadlock for Morecambe as he capitalized on a melee in the Plymouth goal mouth slotting the ball in from a tight angle after the visitors failed to clear their lines.

Reacting to his Saturday goal, Ayunga could not hide his happiness after scoring his second goal for Morecambe since joining the club in the summer transfer window from Bristol Rovers.

“I’m happy to be back on the scoresheet. I’m happy to get the point but I feel like it could have been three,”

“We would have taken a point before the game but, after, there’s a bit of disappointment in the changing room,” said Ayunga.

The 24-year-old spell at Morecambe has been plagued by injury as he picked an impact injury to the knee against Blackburn Rovers in August’s preseason that ruled him out for six-and-a-half weeks.

So impressed were the crowd at Mazuma Stadium by Ayunga’s performance that he was escorted with a standing ovation when he was replaced by Wes McDonald in the 81st minute.

Ayunga was open to slotting in at any position with head coach Stephen Robinson laying emphasis on 4-3-3 or a 3-5-2 formation.

“Front three gives me the licence to get on the ball more I don’t mind going to a two as well, I’m just happy to be playing. Today felt like the first time I was back playing how I wanted to play,” added the forward.
