Bidco United tactician reveals only hope of getting out of relegation zone

After 19 rounds of matches, the Thika-based side finds itself deep inside the relegation zone at position 17 with 17 points

Bidco United head coach Anthony Akhulia has revealed the only hope that he is banking on to help his side survive the shackles of relegation.

After 19 rounds of matches, the Thika-based side finds itself deep inside the relegation zone at position 17 with 17 points.

Bidco played host to military side Ulinzi Stars in an FKF Premier League match played on Friday 31 January at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos, with the match ending in a 1-1 draw.

Once again, Bidco were wasteful in front of goal, a worrying statistic that has seen them score only 11 league goals so far, leaving them seven games without victory.

Akhulia has now placed the hope of surviving relegation on the new players that the club intends to acquire in the mid-season transfer window

“It is now the seventh match without a win. This is becoming too much. We cannot get out of the relegation zone if we are not scoring. We really need to win matches and for that reason, we need to score goals.

We hope that the signings that we are making will help us in salvaging the situation because we are only signing strikers,” Akhulia told Azam Sports.

In the match played on Friday afternoon, Bidco took the lead in the second minute through vice-captain Jacob Onyango and wasted numerous chances thereafter before Telena Ochieng equalized for Ulinzi Stars in the 49th minute from a well-taken free kick.

“I am not satisfied. This is a game that we ought to have killed off in the first half. We had so many chances in the first half but as usual, we were very wasteful,” said Akhulia after the match.

The former Bidco captain could not help but note the disparities between his side's performance in training and during matches.

“Looking at the quality of players at our disposal, it looks like they just want to be down there because what you see in training is different from what you see in the match.”
