Newbies halt league leading Tusker's seven game winning streak with admirable performance

A 90th minute goal from substitute Batts Awita was all Bidco United needed to snatch all three points from title favorites Tusker in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) encounter staged on Saturday afternoon at Kasarani.

The top-flight debutantes Bidco started the game positively, getting the earliest chance of the game in the second minute. Alex Juma got well behind the Tusker defensive line and found himself all alone in the area. His powerful shot was however comfortably handled by Michael Wanjala in the Tusker goal.

Bidco, determined to continue with their three match winning streak, continued taking the heat to Tusker. This time veteran striker and former Ulinzi Stars player Stephen Waruru just whisked his effort wide of the goal from a dangerous free kick just outside the box in the eighth minute.Waruru would not miss a second invitation to score in the 15th minute.

David Kalama floated in a nicely weighted cross into the box that found the striker all alone in the box. The striker, who had timed his run to perfection, rose high and headed the ball into the net leaving the goalkeeper rooted to the ground to give Bidco the opener.

The game however dissipated after the goal was scored as the teams struggled to carve out clear cut goal scoring opportunities. Bidco held on to their dominance to ensure they went into the break leading 1-0.

Robert Matano, who was certainly disappointed from the lackluster first half display from his charges, went for the jugular before the resumption of the second half.

Academy product Erick Zakayo, together with experienced Humprey Mieno and super sub Jackson Macharia were thrown in the frame in place of Boniface Muchiri, captain Hashim Sempala and Chrispinus Onyango all in a bid to try and change the tide for the second time in a space of five days having staged a successful 2-1 comeback against Nzoia Sugar on Tuesday.

The game went into a lull for most of the second half as Bidco fell back to defend their deserved first half lead. Ten minutes to time, Monyi who overlapped forward from the right back position was brought down in the Bidco box as he tried to wriggle his way through earning Tusker a penalty kick.

Substitute Humprey Mieno repaid the manager's decision to bring him on by slotting the penalty coolly into the roof of the net to draw Tusker level in the game.

Tusker thought they had completed the comeback when Chrispinus Ochieng' scored the second but his effort was ruled out for offside cutting out the celebration from the Tusker unit.

In the first minute of stoppage time, substitute Batts Awita raced on goal after a confusion from Tusker and slotted the ball into the net to give Bidco a 2-1 win to end Tusker's eight game winning streak and twelve game unbeaten run, in the process extending Bidco's winning streak to four games.
