Both sides are targeting crucial points in the race for European qualification
Marseille will aim to steady the ship when they host Strasbourg at the Stade Velodrome on Saturday in Ligue 1.
Both sides are targeting crucial points in the race for European qualification.
Fourth-placed Marseille welcome seventh-placed Strasbourg in what promises to be an open contest between two attack-minded teams, and our betting focus leans toward a home victory.
It has been a turbulent week for Marseille.
A heavy 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain last weekend not only dented their momentum but also marked the end of Roberto De Zerbi’s tenure by mutual consent.
That loss means OM remain on 39 points from 21 matches (W12, D3, L6), just three points clear of Lyon in the battle for an automatic Champions League league-phase place.
Despite the setback, Marseille have been one of Ligue 1’s most dangerous attacking sides, scoring 46 goals so far - the second-highest tally in the division.
Recent form has been mixed. In their last six matches in all competitions, Marseille have recorded two wins, one draw and three defeats, conceding 14 goals in that stretch.
They have scored eight times across those fixtures, with all six games producing over 2.5 goals. At home, however, the picture is far brighter.
OM have taken 23 of their 39 points at the Velodrome and have lost just once there in the league this season, a 2-0 defeat to Nantes in early January.
They have won three of their last five home league matches and are unbeaten in their last two against Strasbourg. Team news could see several adjustments.
Jeffrey de Lange started in goal against PSG, while Benjamin Pavard, Emerson Palmieri and Amine Gouiri were among those rotated in.
New arrival Himad Abdelli made his Ligue 1 debut off the bench, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mason Greenwood remain key attacking threats.
Greenwood leads the scoring charts for OM with 13 league goals and has also contributed five assists.
Defender Nayef Aguerd is sidelined, but the core of the side remains intact.
Strasbourg, meanwhile, sit seventh with 30 points (W9, D3, L9), just a point off the top six and three behind fifth-placed Lille.
After an impressive run to start 2026, they have now lost two consecutive league matches, most recently a 2-1 defeat at Le Havre.
Across their last six games in all competitions, they have won four and lost two, scoring 17 goals and conceding seven.
Notably, all six of those matches went over 2.5 goals, with both teams scoring in five of them.
Away form remains a concern. Only 11 of their 30 points have come on the road, and they have lost three of their last five away league fixtures.
Eight of their nine Ligue 1 defeats this season have been by a single-goal margin, highlighting their competitiveness but also their fragility in tight contests.
Injuries to Maxi Oyedele and Emanuel Emegha, along with a suspension for Ismael Doukoure, limit their options, though Joaquin Panichelli (11 goals) and Martial Godo provide attacking spark.
Head-to-head statistics show a tight rivalry. Four of the last six meetings have ended in draws, and 83% of those games saw both teams score. Marseille won the reverse fixture 2-1 earlier this season and are unbeaten in their last two against Le Racing.
Key pointers for this prediction:
Marseille have taken 23 of 39 points at home this season.
Strasbourg have lost three of their last five away league games.
Five of Strasbourg’s last six matches saw BTTS.
Marseille are unbeaten in their last two meetings with Strasbourg.
Given Marseille’s strong home record, superior firepower and Strasbourg’s inconsistent away form, backing a home win offers value. Expect chances at both ends, but our primary prediction is Marseille to win, with over 2.5 goals also worth consideration based on both sides’ recent scoring trends.
Prediction: Marseille win and over 2.5
