Both sides are still harbouring ambitions of climbing into the top half of the table, although their recent trajectories could hardly be more different.

Lazio enter the round sitting 11th with 34 points from 27 matches, while Sassuolo occupy ninth place on 38 points, giving the visitors a slight edge heading into this contest.

Lazio’s recent form has been underwhelming and reflects a difficult campaign for the Roman club.

Across their last six matches in all competitions they remain winless, recording four draws and two defeats.

In that stretch they have scored just five goals while conceding nine, highlighting their ongoing struggles in front of goal.

Their latest outing ended in a dramatic 2-2 draw with Atalanta in the Coppa Italia, but before that they suffered a disappointing 2-0 league defeat away to Torino.

In Serie A they average only 0.96 goals per match while conceding one per game, and many of their fixtures have been tight affairs, with 74% finishing under 2.5 goals this season.

Home form has also been inconsistent for Lazio.

They have lost three of their last six matches at the Olimpico and won only one of their last eight league games overall.

Despite the dip in results, captain Mattia Zaccagni remains an important attacking outlet, while Gustav Isaksen and Daniel Maldini provide support in the final third.

In terms of team news, Samuel Gigot and Nicolo Rovella remain sidelined through injury, while Toma Basic is also unavailable.

Maurizio Sarri is expected to rely on a largely unchanged lineup as Lazio attempt to rediscover momentum.

In contrast, Sassuolo arrive in excellent form and full of confidence. The Neroverdi have won five of their last six matches in all competitions, with their only defeat in that run coming against league leaders Inter Milan.

During those six games they have scored 11 goals and conceded eight, underlining a far more productive attacking display compared to their hosts.

Their most recent result was a notable 2-1 victory over Atalanta, a performance that reinforced their impressive resurgence in recent weeks.

Sassuolo’s away form has also improved significantly.

They have won their last two league trips, including victories at Pisa and Udinese, and will be aiming to secure three consecutive away wins in Serie A for the first time in several seasons.

Winger Domenico Berardi remains the team’s key creative figure with seven league goals, while Armand Lauriente has contributed heavily with assists.

However, striker Andrea Pinamonti is suspended for this match, which means M’Bala Nzola is likely to lead the line for the visitors.

Recent head-to-head meetings between the sides have typically been tight contests.

Lazio historically hold the advantage, winning four of the last six encounters, although Sassuolo claimed a narrow 1-0 victory in the reverse fixture earlier this season.
