The Royals brush aside Espanyol 4-0 to clinch the much-deserved trophy in a campaign that has seen them dominate the league

There's no such thing as an easily clinched La Liga title, but Real Madrid have dominated this season from the start until the very end.

Today's 4-0 landslide home victory against Espanyol sealed the deal for the Royals, who are 17 points clear of their closest contenders, Sevilla, at the top of the table.

It was a carnival-like atmosphere at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the hosts triumphing in a classy style in front of their own ecstatic fans.

Rodrygo's first-half brace decided the game even before the break, providing Carlo Ancelotti with an opportunity to mix his cards in the second period to prepare his side for the gigantic test against Manchester City on Wednesday in the return leg of the Champions League semifinal.

New La Liga champions were crowned amid standing ovations for Real Madrid's top stars, like Luka Modric and Karim Benzema. The latter came in with half an hour left on the clock and nailed the team's last goal of the game, Benzema's 26th in this La Liga campaign.

Besides him, this one will be remembered for Real Madrid's immaculate boss Carlo Ancelotti - the first tactician ever to win a domestic title in all top 5 European leagues (Serie A with AC Milan, Bundesliga with Bayern Munich, Ligue 1 with PSG, Premier League with Chelsea and La Liga with Real Madrid).
