Inter and Bayern will face off next week in the Champions League quarterfinals, but their battle has already begun—off the pitch. In the transfer market. Although it’s only April and the summer transfer window is still months away, top clubs are already laying the groundwork for major signings. The Nerazzurri and the Bavarians share the same summer transfer target and want to secure his signature as soon as possible: Luiz Henrique from Marseille.

The Brazilian is a versatile winger who can play on both flanks. He thrives as a classic winger, whether on the right or left, and can also operate centrally as an attacking midfielder. A player of his profile is highly sought after, so it’s no surprise that two European giants are competing for him. Nottingham Forest and Newcastle had previously expressed interest, but according to reliable German and Italian sources, the real race for Henrique’s signature is now between Bayern and Inter. Marseille’s chances of keeping him are slim.

Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, and their head coach, Vincent Kompany, were spotted in the stands during the PSG vs. Marseille match in mid-March. It took German journalists a few days to uncover the reason for their visit—it was Luiz Henrique. The plan is for the Brazilian to replace one of Bayern’s underperforming wingers, such as Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, or especially Kingsley Coman. Reportedly, contact has already been made with the player.

However, Inter is also pushing hard for Henrique. He has long been on the radar of Beppe Marotta and his team. The Brazilian would fit perfectly into Simone Inzaghi’s 3-4-2-1 and 3-5-2 formations. A sign of Inter’s serious interest was Marseille’s sporting director, Mehdi Benatia, attending the Milan derby as a guest of the Nerazzurri, where he reportedly discussed Henrique’s transfer. The Brazilian is under contract with Marseille until 2028, and the French club values him at 30-35 million euros. Inter’s initial plan is to negotiate a price closer to 25 million, leaving room for bargaining. Both clubs hope to complete the deal before June to register Henrique for the Club World Cup in the U.S.
