Barcelona made a flying start at the Metropolitano, needing less than a minute to create the first big chance of the match. Lamine Yamal found himself in a dangerous shooting position just seconds after kickoff, but Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Musso reacted well to keep his effort out.
The early pressure paid off in the 4th minute, as Barcelona took the lead following a costly mistake from Clement Lenglet. The Atletico defender attempted a back pass but struck Yamal instead, allowing the ball to fall to Ferran Torres. He quickly set it back for Yamal, who calmly slotted it through Musso’s legs in a one-on-one situation to make it 1-0.
Atletico responded shortly after, with Lookman getting on the end of a pass from Julian Alvarez in the 8th minute. However, his volley attempt lacked precision and drifted wide. Just a minute later, Barcelona nearly doubled their advantage, as Dani Olmo broke through on goal, but Musso once again came to Atletico’s rescue with a crucial save.
The hosts grew into the game and came close to equalizing in the 22nd minute. A well-worked move between Griezmann and Lookman ended with the Frenchman shooting from close range, only for Gerard Martin to make a vital block. Despite the deflection, the referee incorrectly awarded a goal kick instead of a corner.
Barcelona struck again in the 24th minute to extend their lead. Olmo played a precise pass to Ferran Torres, who breezed past Lenglet before finishing clinically into the far top corner for 2-0.
Moments later, another defensive error from Lenglet nearly proved costly, as Yamal set up Fermin Lopez for a clear chance, but Musso produced a brilliant save. The incident also led to a brief stoppage after the goalkeeper accidentally caught Fermin in the face, leaving him bloodied.

Atletico managed to pull one back in the 31st minute with a well-executed team move. Marcos Llorente delivered an excellent ball into the box, where Lookman finished from close range to make it 2-1 and bring the home side back into the contest.
Barcelona continued to threaten before the break, and in the 41st minute, Yamal once again played a key role, setting up Ferran Torres for a shot. However, Musso was equal to the effort, making another important save to keep Atletico within touching distance.
The first real chance after the break came in the 53rd minute, when Julian Alvarez led a counter-attack and laid the ball off to Lookman. The forward tried his luck from around 20 meters out, but his effort drifted just wide of the Barcelona goal.
Two minutes later, Barcelona thought they had extended their lead. In the 55th minute, Ferran Torres found the net for what seemed to be his second goal of the match after a scramble in the box, with Gavi’s shot deflecting kindly into his path. However, after a VAR review, the goal was ruled out for offside, keeping the score at 2-1.
As the half progressed, Atletico began to regain some control. In the 68th minute, Marcos Llorente fired from a tight angle on the right side of the box, but his shot flashed past the post. Shortly after, the match was interrupted for several minutes due to a clash between Ruggeri and Gavi, with the Atletico player requiring medical attention after suffering a bloody injury.
The home side continued to threaten, and in the 74th minute they came very close to equalizing. Le Normand found himself unmarked just five meters from goal, but Joan Garcia reacted quickly, blocking the shot with his leg. Only a minute later, Le Normand had another opportunity, this time with a header following a foul, but his attempt sailed over the bar.
The turning point came in the 77th minute with a highly controversial moment. Alexander Sorloth broke forward on the halfway line and looked set to go through on goal before being pulled back by Eric Garcia. Initially, referee Clement Turpin appeared ready to show a yellow card, but play was stopped for offside. After a VAR intervention, the decision was overturned—there was no offside—and Garcia was instead shown a straight red card, leaving Barcelona down to ten men.
Atletico tried to capitalize on their numerical advantage, with Alvarez testing Garcia with a shot aimed toward the corner, but the Barcelona goalkeeper was well-positioned and gathered the ball safely.
The home side came close to scoring in the 86th minute, as Nico Gonzalez tried to beat Garcia with a volley, but the ball whistled just past the post.
Barcelona’s last chance for a miracle came in the 97th minute, when Ronald Araujo headed the ball from nearly five meters out, but it flew over the bar.
