Kenyan coach Francis Baraza completes Kagera move after being linked heavily with the job this past week

Former Biashara United head coach Francis Baraza has finally completed his move to Kagera Sugar after weeks of unending speculation. The former Harambee Stars defender is said to have cleared his locker on Monday after guiding the Mara-based club to a 1-0 win away to Ihefu FC.

Baraza confirmed the story to Mozzart Sport when approached for confirmation on a fact finding mission.

“It's true I have moved to Kagera Sugar and I have already signed my contract. They gave me a good offer which I couldn't turn down. I am looking forward to this exciting challenge,” he said.

Baraza, who won the league with Sony Sugar in 2006 joined Biashara in November 2019 after ditching Chemelil Sugar who are currently in the National Super League. He had joined the sugar men in May 2018 after leaving Tusker.

The one-time Tusker FC assistant coach replaces Mecky Maxime who was shown the door on Monday following a series of poor results. The former Western Stima man leaves a Biashara United side that currently sits comfortably in fourth place on 39 points, only eleven behind log leaders Yanga to go and take over a Kagera side that sits in position thirteen on the log on 25 points.

Kagera Sugar will be getting the services of a coach who has lifted three Kenyan Premier League titles. Twice as a player for AFC Leopards (1998) and Oserian Fastac (2001) and once as the head coach for Sony Sugar in 2006.

Baraza’s first task will be to find a winning formula for Kagera in the league as the team have gone on an eight game winless run in the league, losing four and drawing four. His first assignment will be an away game to Mbeya City who are in 16th position, five points behind them.
