The forward had failed to score for 13 games before his goal against K'Ogalo.

Nzoia Sugar FC had Levis Barasa Okello to thank for securing their status in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) with the forward elated after breaking his goal drought.

The Sugar Millers registered a 1-1 draw against record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia on Sunday which proved enough for them to survive relegation heading into the final game of the season.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Barasa revealed the significance of the goal to him as he branded the goal ‘special’ for the importance it carried not only to him.

“I was happy after scoring against Gor Mahia because it is a game that we really needed to get something to have some breathing space heading into the final game of the season.

The goal also ended my long run of not scoring a goal which marked a tricky period for me because the team was also not performing well aside from that the goal also helped the team avoid relegation which makes it more special,” said Barasa.

Barasa had endured a 13-game goal drought with his last goal coming against Mathare United back in early March and also received a red card during his barren spell.

The former Vihiga Bullets forward added that he was confident that the team would not drop from the top tier after turning results around at a crucial point in the season.

“We had confidence that the team would not suffer relegation because we picked momentum at the right time. If you look at our results we drew against Tusker and Gor and beat KCB,” added Barasa.
