Ball boy defends Kimmich for not giving him his shirt

17-year old Vakkas Sahan explained what really happened

Joshua Kimmich’s status is now what it used to be. Under Hansi Flick and Julian Nagelsmann he was untouchable and played his best football. Then Thomas Tuchel came in and ignored the old saying: ‘If it ain't broke, don't fix it’. He insisted on the player who plays ‘six’, and claimed it wasn’t Kimmich; he often took him out during games and thus fueled speculations that the player could be for sale. Kimmich is not in his best form at the moment, and he also received a red card against Darmstadt, ruling himself out of the duel with Borussia Dortmund over the weekend. But he played against Saarbrucken in the DFB Cup and not only was on the losing end but was a subject to social media abuse.

In a shameful exit from the 15th-placed third-tier Saarbrucken, Kimmich was shown on TV cameras snubbing the home team ball boy who wanted his shirt. The video soon spread out on social media channels, and soon unpleasant comments started to appear aimed at Kimmich. Some of them were pure abuse, and some of them were suggesting that the Bayern player was a weak person. Vakkas Sahan (17) is a U-19 player for Saarbrucken but was the ball boy on Wednesday evening, and he was the one who asked for the jersey for Kimmich. When he saw the video and the comments below, he decided to react.

My phone vibrates all the time, I get sent videos of the scene all the time. It’s crazy how it’s portrayed. It wasn’t like that – and I don’t want Kimmich to have to suffer because of it. I then went up to him and asked him for his jersey because I like him as a footballer. He then said I would get it in the locker room. As a youth player, unfortunately I wasn’t allowed into the locker room” said Sahan to ‘TZ’.

Saarbrucken player explained what happened later.

Such a great footballer is then portrayed as stupid. People just don’t know what really happened. I wanted to straighten things out, so I tried to contact him. I then got in touch with his management via his homepage”. The misunderstanding has been cleared out in a fairytale-like ending: Sahan will receive Kimmich’s jersey soon.
