Bajaber reveals how individual training bore wonder goal in Harambee Stars debut

Practice makes perfect. This saying resonated well with Harambee Stars forward Mohammed Bajaber, as he perfected what he had been polishing for considerable time at the biggest stage of his career. 

Bajaber is the talk of town, and rightfully so, given the superb goal he scored on his Harambee Stars debut against The Gambia, in a 2026 World Cup qualifier match staged at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ivory Coast on Thursday night. 

With Stars trailing 2-1, Bajaber collected the ball fews metres from the box before beating his marker and curling a sumptuous volley to the top corner to draw Kenya level, in a match that ended in a 3-3 draw. 

When the youngster, who is commonly known as Starboy, touched down at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), with the rest of the team, on Friday afternoon, he exclusively told Mozzart Sport that the finishing skill was a result of covering the extra mile.

Bajaber revealed that he had developed the habit of being the first player to report to training at his former club, Nairobi City Stars, to work on bending the ball into the net, along with other finishing skills. 

"It was not by luck, as I have been working on the art for some time. I used to be the first player to be on the pitch, during my times at City Stars just to fine-tune my scoring instincts. I have also been putting in individual effort at my current club," disclosed the Kenya Police FC hitman.

Asked on what was running through his mind before unleashing the shot, Bajaber admitted to have spotted the space on the right of The Gambian goalkeeper Ebrima Jarju. 

" I saw the space and tried to take advantage of it. I am happy I did, all praise to God," he opened up.

Further, the Midtjylland trialist revealed what coach Benni McCarthy told him before he introduced him in the second half. 

"The coach told me to go in and enjoy myself and have fun,"said the 21-year-old.
