Barcelona were confident of returning to their iconic stadium in August, but after discussions with the Barcelona City Council, it seems impossible

On 28 May 2023, Barcelona defeated Mallorca 3-0 at Camp Nou thanks to Ansu Fati's brace and a goal from Gavi. It was also the farewell match for club legends Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, who retired from the club that season.

That was the last match the Blaugrana played at their iconic stadium before the renovation began, and it's still far from over.

Despite previous hopes that the team will return to their ground after more than two years this August for the Joan Gamper Trophy against Serie A side Como, it won't happen after all. At least, as things stand, not before October.

The latest reports from Spain say the Joan Gamper Trophy will be played at the Estadi Johan Cruyff. Barcelona was confident of returning to Camp Nou next month, but after discussions with the Barcelona City Council, it became aware that it would be impossible. They will apparently explain the reasons for the decision in the coming days, with a press conference on Monday being a possibility.

Rumours say that Barca could play their first La Liga match of the season at Camp Nou against Valencia on the weekend of September 13th/14th.
