The country is current serving a FIFA suspension due to government involvement in football.

AFC Leopards head coach Patrick Aussems has asked newly appointed Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ababu Namwamba to move with speed in solving the current FIFA Suspension imposed on the country.

Kenya is currently serving a FIFA Suspension after the former Sports CS Amina Mohamed disbanded the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) on grounds of misappropriation of public resources.

Aussems intimated that he has knowledge on the workings of FIFA and asked Namwamba to solve the current football impasse that has seen the 2022-2023 season fail to kick off.

“I know FIFA well and I know lawyers in FIFA who are my friends and if you are banned for them you do not exist so the first thing to do is to have this ban lifted because football is very important in the country.

Fans are waiting to come back to the stadium, and players are also waiting to play because they live from football. Sponsors are also not seeing any games so the games should return as soon as possible,” said Aussems.

Namwamba who has already assumed office kept his word as he revealed that he held talks with FIFA to lift the suspension on his first day in office.

The Belgian tactician added that the uncertainty of the league kick-off has affected the club as Ingwe settled for a 2-2 draw against Division One side Rainbow FC on Friday.

“We are preparing but we don't know for what and we do not know for when, the plan is to just get friendly games because we have not played in a long time.

We had some satisfaction in the game (against Rainbow) because we had a lot of opportunities which unfortunately we missed,” added the former Simba head coach.
