'Italian job' continues for the north Londoners
The Gunners are 'window-shopping' in Italy but their plans seem to be stuck. North Londoners first targeted Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina, but they quickly switched to their secondary target - Dejan Kulusevski.
Although Arsenal were willing to pay Fiorentina the requested price of 90 million USD for the Serbian striker (with bonuses), the deal requests for the player to show desire for the transfer and at the moment - there is none. Italian media reported that Vlahovic and his agents do not even want to start negotiations with Arsenal and that the London club has not even managed to get in touch with them. It was a clear signal to Arsenal to switch to other options. And they did.
Emirates Stadium based team are now after Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus. The Swede of Macedonian origin came to Juve last year as a big signing, the Bianconeri bought him from Atalanta at a price of 40 million USD plus bonuses and left him on loan in Parma. However, in a year and a half in Turin, Kulusevski did not live up to expectations.
In his first season under Andrea Pirlo, he gave solid performances. In 47 matches in all competitions, he scored seven goals and the same number of assists. However, since the arrival of Max Alegri, Kulusevski has fallen out. The change of formation with the new coach narrowed the space for him to play. This season, he played in 15 games and scored only one goal and recorded one assist. The problem is that in from 13 of 15 matches he came in as a substitute and that Allegri does not see him as a serious option in the attack. Chiesa, Bernardeschi, even Cuadrado have an advantage on the flanks.
In the only two matches with which he started (derbies against Napoli and Inter), the Swede was in the offense with Alvaro Morata. However, there was no Paulo Dybala then for whom that position was reserved, so Kulusevski should not get his hopes up until the end of the season. That's why Arsenal would like to take the opportunity.
Back in 2016, Arsenal's scouts noticed then 16-year-old Kulusevski. They wanted to bring him to London, but he chose Bergamo and went signed for Atalanta. Now Mikel Arteta has again expressed a desire to see him in a red and white jersey. Juventus would probably have nothing against the sale because the player's price is slowly deteriorating, and Juventus need money for Vlahovic, who as Arsenal, look at the Serbian as one of their transfer targets.
