Arsenal's defender must undergo surgery following a severe hamstring injury

Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes will undergo surgery after sustaining a hamstring injury in a 2-1 home victory to Fulham in the Premier League.

First reports say this injury will rule him out for the rest of the season.

The Brazilian centre-back had gone down a few minutes earlier and appeared to be holding the back of his right leg before he was treated on the pitch and eventually limped off.

Arsenal confirmed the injury and said he should be available for the beginning of the 2025-26 campaign.

"Further to being substituted during our match against Fulham on Tuesday, we can confirm that Gabriel Magalhaes has sustained a hamstring injury which requires surgery," Arsenal said in a statement on Thursday. "Gabi will undergo a surgical repair procedure to his hamstring in the coming days, and immediately begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme, with the aim to be ready for the start of next season."

Gabriel is the third Arsenal player this season to require surgery for a hamstring injury, following Bukayo Saka in December and Kai Havertz in February. His absence will be massive for the Gunners, especially in the upcoming Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid.
