Saliba and Upamecano will be in command of France's back line as Didier Deschamps' side meets Austria in the Euros on Monday

France are among the top candidates to go all the way in the upcoming European Championship, and to do so they need a rock-solid defence.

According to L'Equipe, Arsenal's centre-back William Saliba is set to start for Les Bleus in their EURO 2024 opening game against Austria on Monday evening.

The Gunners' defender, 29, is expected to partner Dayot Upamecano, 25, in the middle of the defence, while Adrien Rabiot is likely to be played in a three-man midfield alongside two 33-year-old veterans, Antoine Griezmann and N'Golo Kante.

In previous weeks, as we were getting closer to the start of the continental tournament, there was an opinion that France manager Didier Deschamps would refuse to play the Arsenal man despite his magnificent form for the Premier League runners-up. However, it appears that Saliba has done some wonderful work with the team in the last few days, so he's found himself ahead of Ibrahima Konate in the pecking order.
