Arsenal and Tottenham less interesting than a pitch invasion

Reading Time: 2min | Mon. 03.05.21. | 19:57

Truth be told it was not just any pitch invasion...

Postponed clash between Man United and Liverpool attracted more attention than matches that actually took place on Sunday - Arsenal's win over Newcastle and Tottenham beating relegated Sheffield United.

As per Sky Sports, around 1.4 million viewers tuned in as the match at Old Trafford was initially delayed during due to an organised fan protests outside the stadium and in Manchester City centre.

More viewers tuned in as the Sky Sports pundits - Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane, Micah Richards and Graeme Souness - tried to analyze rapidly unfolding events, despite there being no live action to broadcast.

Arsenal claimed a 2-0 victory over Newcastle at St James' Park and Tottenham nailed the Championship-bound Sheffield United but the viewership had their eyes locked on the Old Trafford riot.

Eventually the decision was made to postpone the match, with both sets of teams unable to leave their hotels due to the protests.

Sky Sports broadcasters confirmed it will go ahead at a later date, which is yet to be decided.

Representatives from the two teams and the Premier League came together to convene and discuss the situation, after which it was determined that for safety reasons the fixture could not press ahead.

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane supported the cause of the protests and insisted that it is just the beginning from the fanbase.

'They're doing it because they love the club and it's not what has happened over the last few weeks with the Super League.

'I think it's been building for a number of years now, that frustration, and they've come to the end and thought "enough is enough".
