APS Bomet outline FKF Premier League ambitions with new coach topping list

Newly promoted FKF Premier League side APS Bomet is set to appoint a new head coach to replace Evans Mafuta ahead of the 2025/26 season, club chairman Bishop Dr. Fred Akama has confirmed.

Coach Mafuta guided the team to promotion from the National Super League (NSL) after an impressive campaign that saw them finish second behind champions Nairobi United. This marks the first time the disciplined forces side will feature in Kenya’s top flight.
However, despite his achievement, Mafuta will not lead the team in the Premier League due to licensing limitations. The tactician currently holds a CAF B License, while top-tier club licensing rules require a CAF A License.
“We will bring in a coach with a CAF A License because it is a mandatory requirement under club licensing regulations,” Dr. Akama explained.
The chairman revealed that the club is actively engaging several coaches as they seek the best fit to steer the team in its debut top-tier season.
“We are currently in discussions with a number of coaches. It’s a critical decision because the coach plays a central role in a team’s success or failure. We are handling this task with the seriousness it deserves,” he added.
On the expectations for the incoming coach, Dr. Akama stated that the club’s immediate objective is to secure survival in their maiden season in the FKF Premier League.
“For our first season, the target is simple: avoid relegation. We want to establish ourselves, stabilise, and remain in the top flight. It’s an achievable goal, and we’re putting in place everything needed to realise it.”
Looking ahead, Akama outlined the club’s long-term ambitions, including a steady climb up the table and ultimately challenging for titles.
“In our second season, we plan to push further up the table and begin competing with the top teams.
The long-term vision is to be title contenders within three seasons. We believe that’s a realistic and attainable target.”
