Homeboyz will host Al Hilal at the Nyayo National Stadium in the first leg of the Confederation Cup preliminary round on Saturday 19th August

Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Patrick Odhiambo insists that the team is ready to rumble in the CAF Confederation Cup debut despite struggling to post positive results in the off-season friendly matches.

Homeboyz haven’t been convincing in the test matches they have played from the time the team resumed their pre-season activities.

Further, the club lost an opportunity to start the season with a title after losing the FKF Charity Shield to Gor Mahia 4-2 on post-match penalties last weekend.

Homeboyz who are hearing for their debut in the continentals fell 2-0 to Ugandan side KCCA in an international friendly match played at the MTN Omondi Stadium two weeks ago.

The club labored to beat Muhoroni Youth 1-0 in another friendly match played at Muhoroni Stadium last week. The team had also recorded a similar scoreline over Kiminini Combined at the start of the month.

Despite the series of the unconvincing results in the test matches, Odhiambo says he has kept the cards close to his chest and a lethal Homeboyz will get the job done on Saturday against Libya’s Al Hilal Benghazi.

Homeboyz will host the Libyan side at the Nyayo National Stadium in the first leg of the Confederation Cup preliminary round.

The results we got in the Shield and the preceding friendly matches do not imply that we are not ready for the new season. The main objective of the matches we played was to spot the areas we need to work on in the remaining bit of the pre-season. You will see a different Homeboyz on Saturday,” he opened up.

Odhiambo who inspired the club to clinch the Mozzart Bet Cup title last month, beating Tusker 1-0 in the final revealed that converting chances was the sole source for concern to the team.

He however promised to use the remaining days to polish the striking department and get the attackers ready for Benghazi and league assignments.

The friendlies helped us realize the problem in the forward department. We haven’t been scoring goals from our chances. We will work on it,” he assured.

This will be second time Odhiambo will be facing Benghazi as a coach as Gor Mahia played the club in a friendly match in November 2019 at a time when he was an assistant at K’Ogalo.
