Another international transfer is on the horizon: Wan-Bissaka receives a call-up for AFCON

The Manchester United defender is thinking about putting on the DR Congo shirt

It is nothing new for footballers to change their nationality and decide to play for another country in order to have the opportunity to be part of a big competition, because they failed to win a place in the one whose flag they were under until then. This trend was particularly relevant before the previous World Cup in Qatar, and as the African Cup of Nations is around the corner, we could witness another international 'transfer'. After all, one is already in "preparation".

According to British Athletic, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has received an invitation from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to play for their national team, which the Manchester United defender is considering accepting.

Wan-Bissaka has never played for England's senior national team. He made three appearances for the U21 and two more for the U20 selection, but he did not get the opportunity in the senior squad. In fact, he received a call-up from Gareth Southgate for the Euro 2020 qualifiers in September 2019, but had to return to Manchester due to a back problem.

As he did not make his debut for the senior England team, Wan-Bissaka still has the right to play for another national team, which he will try with DR Congo, whose roots he has and for whose U17 selection he played one game back in 2015, interestingly against his peers from England (0-8).

Wan-Bissaka's acceptance of the call-up would potentially be a problem for Manchester United, considering that during AFCON Erik Ten Hag could also be without Andre Onana and Sofyan Amrabat...

DR Congo will play in Group F with Morocco, Zambia and Tanzania at the Africa Cup of Nations, which is scheduled from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
