If you are Brentford, you can score three first-minute goals in as many consecutive games through two African players and yet win only one point

Day after day, sports bring us new records and unbelievable achievements, football as well. Some things that would have been considered unimaginable only 20 years ago are happening today, leaving everyone speechless. If somebody had told you, not 20 years, but two weeks ago, that a team would score a first-minute goal in three matches in a row and in the Premier League, you probably wouldn't have believed it. Or you would have thought of some of the Manchester giants, Arsenal, Chelsea, or Liverpool. But Brentford - not a chance.

Well, Thomas Frank's boys managed to do unimaginable - to net against Man City, Tottenham, and West Ham in the first minute in consecutive Premier League games. Moreover, it took only 82 seconds in total for the Bees to achieve that - 22 seconds against the Cityzens, 23 against the Spurs, and 37 against the Hammers. Interestingly, all the goals were scored by African players - versus the latter two rivals, the Cameroonian Bryan Mbeumo was the "ruthless executor," while Yoane Wissa of DR Congo netted against the four-time consecutive champions of England.

When analyzing these goals, the pattern draws attention - take a kick-off, send a long ball forward, move the attack to the flanks, and cross it inside. Still, despite the outstanding game openings, Frank and his men will have to improve the remainder of their matches, given that the aforementioned early leads brought them only one point - though, truth be said, the rivals were very challenging. Pep Guardiola and Ange Postecoglou's teams came from behind to beat Brentford 2-1 and 3-1, respectively, whereas West Ham salvaged a draw thanks to Tomas Soucek.

Regardless, this generation of the London club, led by the Dane, made a history-books-worth achievement which will be hard to repeat. And they'll have a chance to make it even harder on Saturday against Wolverhampton. Yet, this Brentford's result teaches us that nothing's impossible. Perhaps, in twenty or so years we'll remember the crew from Gtech Community Stadium while talking about some other team's even longer first-minute-goal streak with our mouths wide open.
