For exactly six months and 18 days, Arsenal's grip on the Premier League summit looked unshakeable. And then, in the space of five chaotic minutes at Turf Moor on Wednesday night, the hierarchy flipped.

Level on 70 points and identical goal difference (+37), it was the cold arithmetic of goals scored that restored Manchester City to the throne, at least for now, leaving North Londoners clinging to numbers and the fading memory of a lead that slipped away with five rounds still to play. With 66 goals to their name compared to Arsenal's 63, City sit top of the Premier League when it matters most: near the very end of the season.

Burnley, cast in a supporting role on the night, nonetheless deserve a mention. Their defeat confirmed relegation and an immediate return to the Championship, yet they did Arsenal a backhanded favour by keeping the damage contained. This was the kind of fixture that seemed primed for City to decisively inflate their goal difference. They didn't. And Pep Guardiola, for all three points secured, will know it.

City's victory over Arsenal last week handed Guardiola's side the initiative in the title race, and the trip to face Scott Parker's Burnley offered a chance to press that advantage further. It began exactly as expected. Erling Haaland struck in the fifth minute, drawing City level with Arsenal on goal difference and setting the tone for what looked like a long evening for the hosts. Jeremy Doku did the heavy lifting with a perfectly weighted through ball, Haaland burst clear, and then, with deceptive ease, lifted a delicate, almost casual half-lob beyond Dubravka. A goal of simplicity, precision, and quiet authority - much like City's title charge itself.
