Amorim's Red Devils are quick on the draw

Reading Time: 2min | Fri. 29.11.24. | 22:38

In the initial two matches with the Portuguese on their bench, United scored after 81 and 50 seconds

There is still a lot of work to be done, and everyone around Manchester United, as well as Ruben Amorim, knows it. However, judging by his initial two games on the Red Devils' bench, the Portuguese managed to make an immediate impact.

Namely, on Amorim's debut, in a 1-1 draw against Ipswich, Marcus Rashford opened the scoring after only 81 seconds. Something similar happened four days later in the UEFA Europa League duel against the Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt when Alejandro Garnacho broke the deadlock after only 50 seconds.

Analyzing the previous part of United's season, the one under Erik ten Hag, one can note that these early goals are pretty exceptional, as the Red Devils were nowhere near as "quick on the draw" as under the Dutchman's successor.

In 11 Premier League rounds under Ten Hag, United's earliest goal came after 17 minutes in a 3-0 win over Leicester. Regarding the EFL Cup, Casemiro found the net against the same rival in the 15th, while the earliest goal of the season with the Dutch tactician on the bench, the Red Devils scored in the seventh minute through Rashford in the UEFA Europa League 3-3 draw against Porto.

Even though this "fast-draw phase" may not seem important, it could hint at a particular change Amorim brought. After all, his Sporting Lisbon were known for being an exceptionally efficient side. Perhaps his United will become that, too.
