The 15-member committee has been tasked to ensure FKF is in compliance with the Sports Act

The Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Heritage Amina Mohamed has appointed a 15-member caretaker committee to manage the affairs of Football Kenya Federation.

This comes weeks after she directed the Sports Registrar, Rose Wasike to conduct an inspection at Kandanda House with an eye of unearthing the financial plunder and grim governance reported at the institution.

"The Sports Act allows the Ministry to intervene in the management of sports organizations where they fail to adhere to proper governance processes that include financial management," read part of the statement from the ministry.

The committee has been tasked to manage the affairs of the federation for a period not exceeding six months and eventually hand over the office to the newly elected officials after a successful poll.

Members of the committee include former judge Aaron Ringera, former Kenya Rugby Union bosses Richard Omwela and Mwangi Muthee, Kenya Police head coach Bobby Ogolla, former Kenyan international J.J Masiga ,former Football Kenya Limited vice chairman Titus Kasuve, Harambee Starlets forward Neddy Atieno among others.

While revealing the names of the members of the committee, Amina, in a statement revealed the Registrar had recommended that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) ,National Intelligence Service (NIS) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) are to carry out further investigations in a bid to establish the extend to which misappropriation of funds in FKF may have occurred and prosecute those found culpable.

At the same time, the current FKF officials have been ordered to vacate office to pave way for further investigations and further ordered that the committee to shun the idea of opening a new bank account unless the Principal Secretary authorizes it even as the ministry intends to starve the federation of funds until the previous ones are accounted for.

The committee will have a 12-member secretariat headed by Linda Ogutu with Michael Muchemi taking the rank of Secretary and Lorine Nerea taking up the joint secretary role. Others include former KCB head coach Rishadi Shedu, former FKF deputy Chief Executive Officer Herbo Mwachiro, seasoned sports journalist Robin Toskin among others.

Apart from managing the affairs of the federation, the committee has been tasked to ensure that the provisions of the Sports Act are adhered to as well as coordinate the elections of the body in line with the act and the regulations from the office of the Registrar.

The group has also been mandated to ensure the smooth running of FKF operations including team preparations of all local and international sporting events.
