Allardyce running out of time to make a miracle

Reading Time: 2min | Thu. 04.03.21. | 20:39

West Bromwich looked like a team destined to go down as they slumped to a 1-0 home defeat against Everton

It’s all going wrong for West Bromwich Albion. They couldn’t score a goal and were dealt a cruel blow against an Everton side that looked disinterested for most of the night. It looks like the lack of quality will cost them dear and that not even miracle-worker Sam Allardyce won’t be able to save them from dropping down to the Championship.

A 45-minute yawnfest at The Hawthors did little to suggest Everton are a side battling to break into Premier League’s top four. A sloppy performance from the Toffees gave Sam Allardyce’s team a chance to snatch an unlikely win in their impossible mission of retaining their place in the top division of English football.

Mbaye Diagne and Richarlison were the key men for their respective teams as two teams of vastly different styles did their best to repel any neutrals from enjoying a match of football. Diagne, the Senegalese big man on loan from Galatasaray, bullied the Everton defence and forced Jordan Pickford into making a good save.

The Baggies were to rue their squandered chance.

The match changed after the break as Carlo Ancelotti’s side found another gear and started to put pressure of the shaky Baggies defence. Their period of good football resulted in the opening goal from their main dangerman Richarlison who nodded in from centimetres out, making the most of a Gylfi Sigurdsson's cross! The Iceland international had only just come on as a sub for Abdoulaye Doucoure so credit to Ancelotti for making a difference with his choice of substitution. Everton will surely be playing in a European competition next season.

The Baggies tried their best to get at least a point, but Diagne’s injury time goal was chalked off for offside to the disgust of Allardyce and the West Bromwich Albions supporters.
