Celta are preparing for a tough league clash against Real Madrid on Sunday, 7 December, a match they must win to maintain pressure on leaders Barcelona.

Fully aware of the intensity and importance of the fixture and impressed by the youngster’s rapid development, Giráldez once again drafted Kibet into Saturday’s high-intensity session on the eve of the match.

His involvement with the senior squad meant the 18-year-old missed Celta Vigo B’s league match against Pontevedra, which the side lost 2-1 as they continue their push for promotion.

Whether his absence from the B-team squad signals a possible place, even on the bench, against Real Madrid remains to be seen, but the repeated first-team call-ups speak volumes about his upward trajectory.

This is not Kibet’s first taste of senior-team action; just four weeks ago, he was also summoned to train alongside the first team, which showed the faith the club has in his long-term potential.

Since joining Celta Vigo in the July transfer window, Kibet’s growth has been immense, marking a major leap in a career that has captured widespread excitement both in Kenya and abroad.

The midfielder first shot to prominence when he captained St. Anthony’s Boys High School, Kitale, to the national title, becoming one of Kenya’s standout young talents.

He dominated the 2023 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Games, emerging as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and top scorer with 25 goals and 27 assists.

His exploits earned him a move to Spain in September 2023, joining Nàstic Sports Academy, the youth wing of Gimnàstic de Tarragona, before catching the eye of Celta Vigo scouts who secured his signature.

Kibet made his first official start for Celta Vigo’s Under-19 side on October 5, 2025, helping them to a 2-0 victory over Sporting Gijón.

He has since continued to shine, scoring twice in a 7-2 win over Racing de Ferrol U19 on 24 November, and now has three goals in five appearances, despite featuring from the bench in some matches.

His impressive rise also earned him a debut call-up to the senior national team, Harambee Stars, for the recent international friendlies against Equatorial Guinea and Senegal.

He made his senior debut in the 1-0 loss to Equatorial Guinea, becoming one of the youngest Kenyan players to earn a cap in recent years.

Currently with Celta Vigo B, also known as Celta Fortuna, Kibet is widely viewed as one of Kenya’s brightest prospects, with growing expectations that a La Liga debut may not be far off.
