Harambee Starlets forward Esse Akida was on the score sheet as her side AC PAOK played to a one-all draw with Chalkida Avantes on Sunday to win the Greek Women Premier League with one game left to play.

PAOK have now won the league title eight years running since 2015, with the latest title being their 17th in their time in the top-tier league in just 20 years.

Akida and her teammates went into the game knowing well that a draw was enough to secure them the title, and even took the lead after just 33 minutes courtesy of the Kenyan but her goal was canceled in added minutes of stoppage time in the first half as the two sides played to a draw the entire second half.

The forward joined PAOK Women after an impressive season with Thika Queens last year, penning a one-and-a-half-year deal on Friday 16 July with the now 17-time Greek champions on a free transfer.

Akida joins the Greek giants from Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women Premier League champions Thika Queens following an outstanding season.

She had joined Thika Queens on a short-term contract back in March 2021 after parting ways with Turkish giants Besiktas and also featured in a number of Champions League games for the side.

The 29-year-old had an impressive season with Thika towards the tail end of the campaign as he scored in the semi-finals of the Women’s Premier League Nakuru Queens and later bagged a brace in the finals against Gaspo as they reclaimed the title they won in 2017.
