After the unsuccessful adventure in Leipzig

There's no place like home. Ajax are a prime example - the Amsterdamers confirmed this by forgiving their runaway son, Brian Brobbey. The young striker moved to Leipzig as a free agent just a year ago after previously causing a big storm in Amsterdam by refusing to extend his contract at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Turns out - he was wrong. In the fall of 2021, he played just 124 minutes in the Bundesliga, and about as many in the Champions League and German Cup combined. Ajax forgave him for his betrayal and sent him back on loan for the winter. There he played 396 minutes, scored seven goals and showed that he has not forgotten to play football.

And everything might have gone bust if the 20-year-old striker had returned to Leipzig, but Ajax have now shown how big they really are and for the player who ran away for zero euros last summer, they have now set aside a hefty sum of money in order not to bring him back. With that, the Dutch giants showed how much they really believe in Brobbey.

As officially announced on the club's website: Ajax will pay 16.35 million euros as compensation, and with bonuses, the total price could rise to 19.35 million euros. The contract was signed for five years.

There is obviously no room for vanity in Amsterdam.
