Ramy Bensebaini was 'guilty' of all four Atalanta goals

Ramy Bensebaini will have a hard time recovering from this. The Algerian defender had the worst night in his 18 years old career as he was guilty of all four goals in Dortmund‘s 4-1 defeat in Atalanta! The Germans are out of Europe in the playoffs round and with Bayern Munich coming to town on Saturday, things are getting worse for Niko Kovač‘s team. It‘s hard to imagine having a worst night than Bensebaini. Dortmund‘s defender made a wrong clearance which led directly to the first goal, made another bad one which led to the second, failed to jump properly allowing the third one, but the last mistake was worse of all. In the last minute of injury time, when his team was seconds away from overtime, goalkeeper Kobel made a wrong pass, allowing Atalanta to attack. Pasalic made a cross, Kobel tipped it and it went further back to Bensebaini, who again made a wrong tackle, hitting Krstović in the head before touching the ball. After a VAR check, it was a penalty and the second yellow for the Algerian international. As soon as Samardžić scored for 4-1, the referee whistled the end of the game!

From the first minute Atalanta attacked and didn‘t let go. Before the opening goal they had an opportunity, but Zalewski was too wide and his shot was saved by Kobel. Just a minute later, Bensebaini‘s first mistake led to a 1-0 score by the hosts. The Algerian defender missed the direction of the clearance, giving the ball to Scamacca, who just needed to touch the ball from a close range for the lead. What‘s worse for coach Kovač was the fact that Atalanta continued to dominate and his players had no response. Their first chance game after 30 minutes of play, but Brandt‘s shot was saved by Carnesecchi. Zalewski should have made it 2-0 in the 38th minute, but the ball whizzed wide. The second goal still came, in the worst possible time, in the last minute of the first half. Former Chelsea wide man Zappacosta took a shot from the edge of the penalty area. Kobel was positioned for a save, but his effort took a wicked deflection off Bensebaini and flied into the net.

With the game now tied at 2-2 on aggregate, it was expected that the Germans will finally get the game going, but it didn‘t happen. Guirassy finally had a proper chance in the 53rd minute and unleashed a lovely shot but Carnesecchi made a fantastic save. It was a big boost for the hosts who scored a few minutes later. De Roon‘s cross into the penalty area found Pašalić‘s head and it was 3-0. Borussia woke up when Chukwuemeka and Adeyemi came on. Chelsea‘s forward created a chance for Guirassy who was alone in the goal area but somehow managed to miss the whole ball. And then Adeyemi picked the ball up at the edge of the Atalanta box, cut inside wonderfully, and put the ball into the top corner. Suddenly, it was all tied again but Samardzic then missed a sitter in the 80th minute. From that moment on, players from both teams basically lowered the tempo, anticipating the overtime. But just as the game entered the injury time, Kobel made a mistake and Bensebaini nailed the last nail in Borussia's coffin.
