Ghana winger will spent his next five years learning from Pep Guardiola
It is obvious that at Manchester City there is an imbalance between the attacking power on the right wing - where the largely worn-out Bernardo Silva usually operates - and the left wing, where the explosive Jeremy Doku attacks.
That is why Pep Guardiola decided to add equal strength to the right side of the attack as well. Today the transfer of Antoine Semenyo (26) from Bournemouth was made official, a deal for which the Citizens could pay a total of almost 74,000,000 euros. Of that, bonuses amount to about 2,000,000, meaning Bournemouth are guaranteed 72,000,000 as the fixed fee. In addition, they will receive 10 percent of the profit from Semenyo’s next transfer, although it is unlikely City will ever sell him for more than what they have invested.

On this occasion Bournemouth very much accommodated both Semenyo and City. The winger had a 65,000,000 pounds release clause that would have had to be paid in one lump sum, which would have been a major problem for City’s books and their compliance with financial fair play. Bournemouth agreed to a small discount and also to allow City to spread the payment in installments over the next two years, which is a big advantage for the Manchester club. It is true that Bournemouth benefited as well. Had City activated the release clause on January 1, Semenyo would not have played the matches against Arsenal and Tottenham, in which he scored in the 90th minute to secure a win. Those three points against Spurs are probably worth the small discount Bournemouth made.

Semenyo also did very well out of the move: until now he had been earning about 500,000 a year on the south coast of England, while his annual salary in Manchester will be around 4,000,000 euros after tax. The winger should become the first-choice option on the right flank in the Citizens’ team, as Guardiola tends to use Rayan Cherki inside the attacking line, while the Portuguese Silva is no longer at the level of previous seasons and will most likely leave the club as a free agent next June. There is also young Oscar Bobb, but he often has injury problems and Guardiola could not risk relying on him as the first option.
With Semenyo’s transfer, Manchester City have reached a total of nearly half a billion euros spent on reinforcements over the last 12 months. Let us recall that the major squad overhaul began last January with the signings of Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis, and Nico Gonzalez, and continued in July 2025 with Rayan Ait-Nouri, Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Gianluigi Donnarumma, James Trafford, and Sverre Nypan. In total: 490,000,000 euros. And while City are among the biggest spenders in world football, Bournemouth are among the best sellers. Including Semenyo’s transfer, they have earned 310,000,000 from sales since June 2025. Only Chelsea have taken in more—332,000,000. Since last June, Bournemouth have completed four major transfers, all to top clubs: Kerkez (Liverpool), Huijsen (Real Madrid), Zabarnyi (PSG), and Semenyo (City). Add to that the sale of Dango Ouattara to Brentford for 42,800,000 and some smaller deals such as Jaidon Anthony (Burnley), Philip Billing (Midtjylland), and Mark Travers (Everton)…
