Charles Sagoe Jr, 19, made his first senior appearance for the Gunners at Brentford
Arsenal teenager Charles Sagoe Jr. made his first senior appearance for the club on Wednesday night against Brentford. Mikel Arteta has been forced into rotating his starting XI following the North London Derby and, in doing so, has handed the player of Ghanaian descent his maiden chance with the senior squad.
The 19-year-old started from the right wing with Bukayo Saka struggling with his fitness and impressed before eventually being replaced by Gabriel Jesus in the 68th minute. The Gunners' captain, Martin Odegaard, made sure the debutant took the applause from the visiting supporters at Brentford after the final whistle.
It’s a dream come true to have made my professional debut with Arsenal last night. It’s a proud moment for me and my family and it’s an experience I’ll never forget. Thank you for your support!🙏🏾 pic.twitter.com/nXDnSkrEhf

A few moments later, the African boy took to social media to share his delight about the Arsenal debut.
"It's a dream come true to have made my professional debut with Arsenal last night. It's a proud moment for me and my family, and it's an experience I'll never forget. Thank you for your support!," Sagoe Jr wrote on X.
Young Charles is an attacking player who can operate either as an offensive midfielder or on the wing. He has been one of the stand-out performers at Under-18 and Under-21 levels in the past two seasons and has now been handed the opportunity to perform in the senior team.
After signing his first professional deal, he said:
"It's an amazing feeling to sign my first professional contract with Arsenal Football Club. I see the project that Mikel Arteta and Per Mertesacker are doing, how they're developing young players, and I want to be a part of it."
