At the same time, the Paris Saint-Germain forward became the fourth-youngest player to find the net at the World Cup, after Pele, Manuel Rosas, and Gavi
Even though Senegal failed to stun mighty France yesterday, the moment from the fifth minute of added time has gone down in the history books.
When Ibrahim Mbaye - aged 18 years, 4 months, and 23 days - found the net and pulled one back for Lions of Teranga, he became the youngest-ever World Cup scorer from Africa, dethroning his compatriot Moussa Wague, who was about four months older when he scored against Japan in the group stage at the 2018 World Cup.

2026: 🇸🇳 Ibrahim Mbaye - 18 years, 4 months & 23 days
2018: 🇸🇳 Moussa Wagué - 19 years, 8 months & 20 days
2006: 🇬🇭 Draman Haminu - 20 years, 2 months & 21 days
2002: 🇳🇬 Julius Aghahowa - 20 years, 3 months & 26 days… pic.twitter.com/ANHcE6x1nw
In doing so, the Paris Saint-Germain forward joined a renowned group of players, becoming the fourth-youngest scorer at the World Cup, behind Pele, Manuel Rosas, and Gavi.
This achievement will surely boost the youngster's confidence ahead of Senegal's crucial group-stage challenges against Norway and Iraq, and the entire Pape Thiaw's squad should feel the same way.
Ibrahim Mbaye is now the 4th youngest goalscorer in World Cup history!

Despite the defeat to Les Bleus, nothing is lost. The Senegalese played an exceptional game against one of the favourites to win the World Cup, whose individual quality prevailed in the end.
It's not over until it's over, and Mbaye's success should spur the Lions of Teranga on towards the knockout phase they fully deserve.
