African duo prevents Kane-less Tottenham to win at Brentford

Reading Time: 3min | Sun. 13.08.23. | 18:10

Mbeumo and Wissa turned the game around before Royal made it 2-2

According to the Tottenham’s new boss Ange Postecoglou, Spurs fans are currently ‘in mourning’ but life goes on and they visited Brentford’s stadium in order to see their beloved club and Son as the new captain. And it all started well, with a leading goal after only 11 minutes, but then the African duo of Yoane Wissa (Congo) and Bryan Mbeumo (Cameroon) soon turned things around. But Postecoglou’s men were not gonna be defeated in a first game without Kane, as Royal scored great goal in injury time of the first half to secure a draw. Despite four goals and an excellent first half, the second part was totally opposite and the game finished 2-2. It was interesting to note than both goals for Tottenham came from their defensive players, rather than new striking partnership Son – Richarlison.

The first half was a joy to every genuine football fan. Chances, goals, high pressure, penalty, VAR checks which weren’t controversial…even the goals were evenly distributed. The first one, scored by Spurs was a header from Romero in the 11th minute, which was under VAR review for offside, but the decision stood. Then we saw an equalizer from penalty, also checked by VAR, then it was time for Brentford to make a complete turnover with Wissa’s goal from open play, and then a beauty from 17 meters by Emerson, in the 49th minute of the first half (the injury time was 11 minutes).

But in the second half, everything was completely different. For starters, there were no goals, and the chances were hard to come by, but there were some, like for example Son in the 59th minute. The new Spurs captain would have probably score a year or two before from the situation like this, but now he was not playing with full confidence, like we used him to do, so Brentford keeper Flekken saved the shot. Both teams had better control in the second half and played more consciously, aware of the fact that they conceded two goals apiece in the first 45 minutes. Even the fact that both clubs scored most of their goals last season during the last 20 minutes of the game didn’t help in this one. The score remained 2-2 until the very end.
