FUFA also expressed disappointment at slow work at Uganda's biggest stadium, Nelson International Stadium

There's still no light at the end of the tunnel for Uganda as far as hosting Level 1 International games are concerned.

Due to lack of an approved stadium, Uganda will stage their second consecutive and last Group F Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying home match against Algeria in Cameroon in June.

In a press statement on Tuesday, FUFA, the country's football body, confirmed they will host Algeria in Cameroon, while expressing disappointment at slow work at the Uganda's biggest stadium, Nelson International Stadium, which is currently under renovation.

FUFA has described the work as very slow and insensitive to cries of the public to be able to host the matches in Uganda.

“I call upon the relevant government authorities to urgently cancel the contracts of the contractors and supervisors and immediately procure experienced service providers in stadium construction even if it means being obtained from outside Uganda. The country is likely to have a delayed project, substandard work and without value for money,” Eng. Moses Magogo, the President of FUFA, said.

Having missed the last AFCON in Cameroon, Uganda are gunning to make amends this time, but are faced with many obstacles, including having to play all their games away from home.

They will be facing Algerian side that has already qualified for the AFCON showpiece slated for Ivory Coast next year.

Uganda's final match in September will be against Niger away. The two games are crucial for their qualification as they tie on four points each with Tanzania in Group F.

Uganda hosted neighbors Tanzania in their previous home qualifier away in Egypt, losing by a solitary goal.

"FUFA calls upon all Ugandans to continue supporting the Uganda Cranes from all corners of the world as we bid to qualify for the 2023 AFCON Finals to be hosted by Ivory Coast next year."
