Real Sociedad striker suffered a knee injury during Nigeria's last friendly against Guinea on Monday

Super Eagles' striker Umar Sadiq has been ruled out of the 2023 African Cup of Nations due to a knee injury.

The Real Sociedad forward, 26, picked up the injury in Nigeria's 2-0 friendly defeat to the Syli Stars of Guinea on Monday.

In a Friday, statement posted on X by the official Super Eagles account, it was announced that Paul Onuachu, 29, will replace Sadiq.

This is coming after mesmerizing striker Victor Boniface was ruled out of the competition, which is scheduled to start tomorrow, January 13, in Ivory Coast.

Onuachu was at the AFCON 2019, while he missed the previous competition held in Cameroon.

In 15 games for Trabzonspor this season, Onuachu has nine goals and three assists.

Nigeria has also already lost midfielder Wilfred Ndidi due to injury, while striker Kelechi Iheanacho has had a muscle problem and is expected to arrive on the Ivory Coast on Saturday.

Super Eagles kick off their tournament against Equatorial Guinea in Abidjan on Sunday.
